My son was accepted OOS to Rutgers New Brunswick, School of A&S. 4.3 weighted GPA, 1480 SAT, 4 or 5 APs and typical extra curriculars (NHS, sports, job, volunteering)

So kids applied to so many multiple colleges at rutgers?? SAS, RBS, and SOE? I don’t understand. Do they just have no idea what their major will be so they just apply to all and then just decide if they want to attend or not? Seems so weird to me to give acceptance to kids in such different fields but I guess the schools just take that into account when predicting yield. I have never seen anything like that…

You have the option to apply to a second or third choice school, in the event you aren’t admitted to your first choice school within the university.

Has anyone got into NB after receiving the email about Camden and Newark consideration?

It is unusual. I think RU is one of the only schools that does it this way.

Students can apply up to 5 different schools and colleges at Rutgers.

Daughter admitted to NB!!
SAS and SEB
In State
GPA 95.4 uw / 101.1 w
Test Optional
5 AP 2 DE rest Honors

It is admittedly an odd way to do admissions. But, maybe RU is onto something

My oldest S16 entered Uconn as an engineer, switched out and applied to the B school, but ended up graduating from A&S in Econ. Not always a linear path.

It has been that way since I went there in the 80s/90s. Someone aiming for business school may also be interested in economics. Biology is offered in multiple schools. I have also seen other state schools that allow you to choose 2nd and 3rd choice schools/majors, so I don’t think it is that unusual.

p.s. So many kids change their minds once there. I had friends in Engineering switch to Rutgers College. Pharmacy friends switch to nutrition at Cook (what is now SEBS). I honestly think it is more surprising that we expect kids to know what they want to specialize in at this age, but that is another topic entirely

With most state schools, you can select 1st, 2nd choice majors but usually you are only accepted to one. What makes RU unusual is that you can be accepted to multiple.

D24 admitted to SEBS and AS, in state. A little disappointed that there was no confetti or admission letter. It felt a little anticlimactic, but she’s still happy for the acceptance.

My son said the same thing! He was excited to be accepted BUT was laughing at the one word acknowledgement!

Thanks. Seems so weird. I can’t be an engineer so I will just switch to business…hahahah.

Great question

Not everyone is set on their major or future career, so I guess this gives them options?

It does say ā€œCongratulations on your admission!ā€ on the home page though
