Rutgers University New Brunswick Early Action for Fall 2024

Your daughter should probably call or write to the admissions office to check. They might be missing something.

My understanding is that this is very common for Rutgers. I’ve heard people saying that they often received a decision without ever seeing under review checked off. My son submitted early September and also still does not have that.

My understanding is that is typical for Rutgers. Not sure why.

Hi,

Can u please tell how long it took to change to under review? Did it say application pending before that? Thanks

Rumor has it that the school, during the EA round, received 10k more applications than the total applications it received last year due to the availability of common app and higher ranking. I am panicking now.

I think just before thanksgiving

are you in state?

Yes, my DS is in-state.

in-state = less panic necessary
how does your son fall on his school’s scattergram?
it’s a state school, in state is their priority

Thanks for the comforting note! He does well at school and he also told me not to worry about it.

he’s getting in. we are more worried than they are. wish I was as chill as my kid.

Keep in mind if you applied to multiple colleges within Rutgers (e.g., A&S, Business, Engineering, etc.) those EA decisions could come out in waves between December and early February. Two of my sons were accepted over the last few years to different Rutgers programs and they did not receive all their decisions at the same time.

My kid applied to the New Brunswick campus and was just accepted into Camden on the portal, with New Brunswick still under review. We are OOS and do not know anything about the Camden or Newark campuses, reputation wise how do they rank compared to the main campus? Are they seen less then? Is Camden a commuter college? We are from the south and never heard of this campus before.

New Brunswick is the flagship.

Yes, although they have good programs too.

Not officially, but it does have a large commuter population. But then, even at the flagship, about half the students commute or live off campus.

Camden and Newark are less selective, and they really are three separate universities and don’t share resources. New Brunswick isn’t Mayberry, but definitely a step above Camden and Newark.

I see Camden and Newark as easy access for the Rutgers name, but considering they are heavy commuter schools, most kids I know would opt for community college as many have transfer partnerships with Rutgers. It’s more feasible to do 2 yrs close to home before transferring to NB instead of Camden or Newark. However, they are nice small campuses for those who had their heart set on Rutgers but weren’t accepted.

Thank you for the perspective everyone, really appreciate it! We will be holding out for the main campus.

S24, OOS has not heard anything. He logged into the portal today, 13 Dec. Under Application Status:

  1. School of Arts and Sciences (NB) – In Review
  2. Rutgers Business School (NB) – 7 semester grades requested
  3. Newark college of arts and sciences – In Process
