I’d assume TO would be an issue, I think only 500 get chosen. One of mine had a 3.95 (1 B), 9 AP’s, 34 ACT, in state, no merit, no honors. The bar for honors is set very high, my son’s friend turned down BC for Rutgers honors college.
Great input! Appreciate. Her preference is to stay in California which are all test blind. She made a choice to concentrate on other things other than sat test prep and knew it could limit out of state options. Secretly I am happy this knocks the east coast out of the options.
My son still on waitlist, his weighted GPA 94 and SAT 1400
For which school? I am on the waitlist too
I agree I think it is very rude to just not send anything letting them know the decision whether it is accept/decline. The app for Honors required an extra essay, it wasn’t just clicking a box.
Ha. Im happy to not have to read one more “there were many quailified applicants” rejection letter.
My daughter has been accepted to the School of Engineering and School of Arts and Science .
She had Engineering as her first choice and had selected that for her choice of honors
We haven’t received any information regarding Honors. We are in state and called the school and they said that decision should be updated eitherways accept/decline but not really sure if that’s the case
Her friends who had applied for SOAS -(School of Arts and Science) recieved their Honors acceptance letters on 23 rd Feb
Has anyone from School of Engineering recieved any info regarding Honors acceptance ?
My daughter applied to SOE as her first choice. She received an honors college invite (for SOE) on 2/23.
School of engineering and school of arts and science
Oh okay. I’m on the waitlist for engineering.
At what gpa would you get invited into Rutgers honors college (weighted)?
Most likely straight A’s, 4.0 uw (easier to compare us since HS’s have their own methods of weighting).
Our observation is having SAT over 1550. The required essay added in this year seems not doing much on the decision. Rutgers Honor College selection still prefers high stats especially with high standardized score.
I think both gpa and scores are important.
Does NB campus offer merit scholarship if not having applied for the honor?
Has anyone been taken off the waitlist recently? Currently waitlisted for SAS. If you have been please let me know if there was anything extra you did to help with the un-waitlist process.
Yes, Rutgers changed their procedure. You are only considered for Honors College for your top choice school that you selected on your application. It used to be that you could get into Honors College for each of your schools, and then change your mind. That was before the last two years when they know have you indicate your first choice.
Hi -
I am sorry - dont know how to post it in the thread - so here it is -
My child was accepted at Rutgers Camden Honors College (redirected - as alternative) although they applied only at NB, then they got accepted at Newark SAS (not honors) and is waitlisted at NB SAS & SEBS. Can anyone provide more information
- They haven’t received any email about merit, etc from Rutgers Camden Honors College - will they receive any merit, etc?
- Are there study abroad programs at Rutgers Camden Honors College
- What are the chances of being off the waitlist at NB? And approx. When will they let us know. Will it be before May? Child has good stats - 4.3 weighted GPA, 1410 SAT, Honors courses, AP courses, Marching Band, hpurs of shadowing doctor, volunteering, etc… but in a very competitive high school.
- Will they be able to transfer to NB from Newark or Camden?
- is it possible to commute to RU - Newark from Woodbridge, NJ by train?
The other options are Rutgers Camden Honors College & then transferring to NB or Newark & transferring, TCNJ, Stonybrook.
Thanks
So I can only speak to #5. Train is easy. NJ Transit runs most trains from New Brunswick to Newark Penn station with some exceptions during rush hour with trains that bypass New Brunswick or off hours trains that maybe NYC direct.
Rutgers Newark main campus and business school are both downtown and walking distance from Newark Penn station trains (20 min walk) There is also a subway/light rail system with two lines that run from Newark Penn and pass by Rutgers campus on either side which makes the walk shorter in bad weather (5-10 min walk)
Note that Rutgers Health is a separate campus which is a much longer walk uphill into University Heights past NJIT. But that should be grad/med students not undergrad.
Stonybrook is an excellent school. It is underrated education. Its quite different from Rutgers Newark. Suggest a visit on a Friday/sat. My brother went there and we also visited Stonybrook when my S16 got a full ride - it was pretty quiet on the weekend but an actual campus with all the large school benefits. It has a large commuter element that keeps many people away - people looking for a rah-rah big campus. For you that may or may not be an issue. It is located in a very quaint area pretty far out on LI (I’d even say outside the suburbs) with small colonial era towns. I lived nearby in Port Jeff which is fun. But it’s not embedded in a lively city like Rutgers Newark. There is an LIRR train to Stony Brook from NYC but it’s not commutable daily from NB. But easy enough to get back and forth weekly/monthly.
TCNJ is very suburban. No trai goes to campus. Closest is Princeton then a car.
My son went to TCNJ, which is a top public in NJ with a lower acceptance rate than Rutgers NB. There is a close train station in Trenton, my son took it back and forth to Newark all of the time (as did my daughter from Rutgers NB).
