S likes the south!

S a rising Sr, just returned from a month at Ole Miss and he had a fantastic time. When we were first looking at 'bama he was very hesitant as he didn't know anyone from the South and well the only place we've gone to in the US South of DC is Disney World, so that doesn't really count. When we found Ole Miss summer program with a great scholarship it seemed like a good opportunity to test the waters. He has absolutely no reservations about going to school down South now. For a liberal from a private school that is great and its great to see he has an open mind. Lots of internationals, so it was very interesting. His roomate was from MS and he wants to stop in and see him when we visit 'bama again. All in all a fantastic experience.

I had posted on the pforum that he had found the 2 classes he took really easy so i was a little concerned before he came home, but actually it's not surprising since they were intro classes in the humanities which is real strength of his.

^^^In a word, awesome! This addresses concerns raised multiple times on this forum by OOS folks . . . including me many months ago.

Roll Tide!

I'm very glad to hear that your son likes the south. One really does have to visit a school/region to see if they would feel comfortable going to school there.

Roll Tide!

No doubt, your son had an opportunity to view some of the most beautiful women our country has to offer: Southern belles! A proud selling point of ours in the south. That, and the food.

Yes, the south sure has some gorgeous young ladies!

^ That's very true and can be a bit intimidating to a girl from the North.

It's great that your son liked the South - I had the same concerns, also being a liberal from a private school, but had the same reaction after visiting schools down there.

No worries, regina. In the eyes of a teenage boy, you are ALL beautiful.

Well East coast girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And the Southern girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when I'm down there

The Mid-West farmer's daughters really make you feel alright
And the Northern girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be Alabama
I wish they all could be Alabama
I wish they all could be Alabama girls . . .

And now, with the influx of OOS students to Bama, they are!

Love it, malanai. Was thinking of that song myself.

BTW, have any of you guys been going to Send Off parties?

There were like five times as many girls as boys at ours. We were laughing that our friends that didn't make it were sure going to be sorry they missed it!
