S1 graduates in May at the end of Year 7

<p>S1 finally graduates in May at the end of his 7th year of undergraduate school. Actually, his 2nd school. His first 4 years at school #1 were not exactly stellar, but the last 3 at school #2 have been very good and have been on his own dime (mostly). He finally figured out that grades are important and that there is value in knowing and working with your professors.</p>

<p>Some kids need to figure things out for themselves and do so on their own schedule.</p>

<p>W and I are so proud that he has finally found his way to the point of graduation…</p>

<p>Thanks for your post! If you have read any of mine, you’ll find that my son is certainly having his challenges.</p>

<p>There has been a lot of local press about the poor graduation rate. In Texas, only 45% of all caucasian students have a degree within six years of entering college. (The stats are even lower for other groups.)</p>

<p>Congrats to your son for figuring it out. I have hope. S2 dropped out from first school after start and stops. After a break doing time as a maintenance worker, he is back on his own dime at his second school with a couple more years to go. Now making almost straight A’s. S3 however has not figured it out yet. Wasted a couple of yeares at his first school just skating by until that did not work. Has not gone back yet. Hearig your success gives more hope.</p>

<p>Congrats! My oldest took several zigs and zags along his path, so I know just how you feel. I could not have been more happy or proud the day my S graduated. Enjoy graduation day!</p>

<p>Big congrats! My S, after three plus years of undergrad, has been zigging and zagging for a couple more years, still figuring things out. I love stories with happy endings!</p>

<p>S1 jetted through his four years of college with no probs.
S2, a college soph, is having a much bumpier ride. I hold my breath and cross my fingers while my hair turns grayer and grayer. </p>

<p>Congratulations!!! My husband got his bachelor’s degree on the “12 year plan”. In the end…it all worked out. It’s a journey, not a race.</p>

<p>Wow, my hubby was on the 7-year plan for his BS too. Fortunately, it was on his own dime and he’s had a steady job with one employer ever since (several decades now). Congrats to your S & family! Perserverence is a good thing to have.</p>
