Sad Day; Praise for Franklin and Marshall College

Yesterday my family attended the funeral of a 20-year-old sophomore at Franklin and Marshall, who died after an illness that started about a month ago. The funeral was in a DC suburb. As we were entering the location of the funeral, three large buses pulled up, full of F&M students. As I understand it, the college president and chaplain were also there. The funeral had to be moved to a larger space because there were so many people. Several of the college students delivered a eulogy–I think many of the students attending had been in a sorority with the young woman who passed away.

Maybe the same thing would be done at many colleges, but I was very impressed and moved. I thought this was a good place to mention it.

A friend’s D who was a Williams student died several years ago, and a chartered bus brought students from the college to her memorial service. Some administrators came, too, and one of her coaches gave a eulogy.

How terribly sad.

My son told me that something similar was done when a student passed away at Yale a couple of years ago. I think it’s great that a college community pulls together like that.

Where is Franklin & Marshall? Is it very far from the suburb?

F & M is in Lancaster, PA. It’s about a 2 1/2 hour drive, with no traffic. Longer with traffic.
