On All Things Considered yesterday they had on a neurosurgeon who to explain the operation he went under and what could be the causes and he mentioned brain tumor considering the size of the blood clot.

It certainly explains his bizarre line of questioning at the Comey hearing. I had been listening to it and thought to myself “what the heck is he talking about.” He made no sense at all.

Wow. No wonder that the operation was more invasive than initially planned. Hope it was caught and removed early enough. Keep fighting, Senator.

This guy is a fighter…and he is getting excellent treatment, I’m sure.

I wish him the best.

I can’t help but wonder if this was affecting his brain when he went through that extremely bizarre questioning session a few weeks ago. At the time, people were wondering whether or not he had experienced a stroke or something.

I wish him the best. I know he is a fighter.

ETA: I see EB had the same thought.

Very, very sad news. Even though I am across the aisle from McCain politically, I have always had the utmost respect for him, and I wish him the very best possible outcome.

That is awful. I hope he recovers. He is one of the few politicians that understands and wants to preserve our government and the Constitution. He believes in doing what’s best for people, not the party. I hope he can recover.

I, too, am across the aisle from John McCain politically but I have always respected his courage, his patriotism and his love for our country and form of government. Those things can be separated from political belief. I hope he recovers AND that he comes to a new and deeper appreciation of the need for health care for all.

Glioblastoma is the word you absolutely don’t want to hear when you are told you have a brain tumor. :frowning:

I truly believe he works for what he thinks is best for the American people, rather than personal glory and riches like some.

I hope when it is time to go, that he gets the option to go quickly, though he may be unlikely to choose that route and want to fight to the end. Surely he has suffered more for our country than anyone could reasonably ask.

Meghan McCain has released a statement. Warning: tissues likely needed: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2017/07/20/meghan-mccain-statement-on-fathers-cancer/494431001/

The McCain/Obama election was the first election Mr R and I could vote in so it’s burned into my brain. I remember him shutting down even his supporters who spouted conspiracies about Obama (and others). He is a man of integrity who seems to very much believe in a discussion of ideas- not people- something too often lost in politics today.

^^That statement made me teary. I never knew Meghan was such an eloquent writer. I feel terrible for him. I did not realize his mother is still alive at age 105! I may not agree with McCain but I feel he’s one of the only statesmen left in the Senate.

I have not always agreed with Senator McCain, but he is a good and honorable man. I am sorry to hear this news about anyone , and it is especially sad and ironic considering what he has survived. I wish him all the best.

I barely made it through his daughter’s statement. :frowning:

I had a friend whose DH lasted 13 months after this same diagnosis. It’s not a good thing. I feel so bad for him. I’m on the opposite side, also, but I’ve always felt his deep love for our country and wanting to do the right thing.

That statement. <3

This is not the type of cancer you want to be diagnosed with.

He is 80 years old. Can that help him at all with a cancer diagnosis? Doesn’t cancer grow more slowly in older people? Does that not matter since it’s glioblastoma?

P.S. If you look up “fight like Denise” it tells the story of a young woman with glioblastoma. She was diagnosed in 2013 and is doing well.

The man is a fighter, and you can only hope that he can beat it, and most importantly, that whatever the outcome that the suffering is minimized. The man went through hell in Vietnam, and someone who had to experience that kind of hell should not have to experience it another time in his/her lifetime.

Politically he and I wouldn’t agree much of the time, but I think he is an honorable man and other than the 2008 election, I have always felt like he cares more about the country than simply in winning which sadly seems more and the more the MO in politics these days, he stands out because of it.
