^Ugh, I’d rather get that news at 105 than at 49, like my sister.
Still very sad, though.
ML, that’s absolutely tragic. So sorry for your family’s loss. No, I cannot even imaginge that kind of pain. I meant that when you are that old, you probably think that it is a sure thing that you will be buried by your children, not the other way around…
Not that this is the more important discussion, but I do think someone who lived to 105 is fairly liable to outlive a child, certainly more than someone who did not live that long.
From a personal viewpoint, as a 14 year old at my father’s funeral, I still remember my then 73 year old grandmother saying no mother should ever bury her son. And she died three years later, and so she didn’t have to.
This is a grim diagnosis. A family member was Dx and died seven weeks later. His decline was horribly rapid. I feel for the Senator’s family
I’ve never agreed more with a politician than I did with this great man. May he have good quality of life for whatever time he has left on this earth. He has already suffered enough and given his heart and soul to and for all Americans. I"m happy to see so many others with opposing views acknowledge his greatness.
Woman who lost the GOP primary to McCain in 2016 (a) says he should resign and (b) she would be perfect to replace him! Don’t know anything about this woman except that she is probably way more conservative than McCain, but my initial reaction was that she was being (a) VERY insensitive and (b) VERY opportunistic.
Story just rubbed me the wrong way, even though I do not belong to McCain’s party, I respect him as a patriot and a hero.
I too am not on the same side as Senator McCain but I have always held him in high esteem and have tremendous respect for him ( the Sarah Palin nomination aside). This is such sad news. I immediately thought of Senator Kennedy as it the same cancer. This is a bad diagnosis. I only can wish him well and keep him and his family in my thoughts. The night that the news was announced former Congressman Barney Frank was on MSNBC with Lawrence and was very eloquent when discussing both Senator Kennedy and Senator McCain whose presidential aspirations were never fulfilled but they served with great distinction as leaders in the Senate over the length of their careers. Very sad.
