My d was also invited to apply to TAMS, which is a wonderful program, but not for everyone…and definitely not for her. (For those who don’t know, TAMS is a program where h.s. students complete 11th and 12th grade and college freshman/sophomore year simultaneously. Students live in dorms away from home.)

Now that you mention it- my daughters friend that was in a 5 year program at the UW at 14( one year=4 years of high school, then enter college), had a friend ( it is quite a small program) that suicided after several years in college- he may have even been out- I don’t know if that contributed- although very bright kids often are very hard on themseves-

It’s always tragic to hear such news. I hope your daughter is doing OK with this. It’s a hard thing to deal with at any age. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this.

ldmom-
Just saw your thread. I am so sorry. If you recall, my older s lost a friend to suicide a month or so ago. It is so tragic to lose a young life full of promise. Our thoughts are with you and her family as well.

So, so sorry. My heart goes out to the family and community. A reminder to look on those you love, and be so thankful for their active presence, right here, right now.

Lafalum, TAMS is the acronym for Texas Academy for Math and Science. Students who are accepted start their junior year on the campus of University of North Texas in Denton. There is a separate dorm, or floors in a dorm… they are required to go home a certain number of weekends and they try to give the kids a balance of college studies and high school life.

Idmom06, so sorry to learn some family is in terrible pain and loss today.

Sounds like this young lady did not reach out for help, because help can be found but first you have to be able to speak and put words to your feelings and thoughts. So young, and hadn’t found her voice yet, I am sure. Tragic…and senseless loss of someone special.

That is so sad. Some kids can keep their demons very well hidden, which makes it all the more shocking for those left behind. It’s hard to really know what leads to the decision that life isn’t worth it anymore.
