I’m heading to UCSB this fall as an undergrad film and media studies major. I’m aiming to work in television (primarily writing and producing).

I realize it’s a largely theory based school, but there are production courses and opportunities, as well as programs to strengthen connections to Hollywood. In addition, as a student in the school’s honors program, I’ll get to connect with the professors more.

So, my questions are these:
Will I be able to head to a strong grad program (UCLA, USC, Chapman, etc.) once I graduate from UCSB? Or will the emphasis on theory (and overall status as a less well-known program) ultimately harm my chances?
Will any outstanding film grad schools offer strong financial aid? I should be able to make it through undergrad debt free, courtesy of my parents, but grad school is another matter.
If not, which film grad programs offer strong academics and large scholarships/financial aid?
And finally: are there any grad programs out there with special emphasis on television screenwriting and production?

Any answers to any of these worries would be greatly appreciated.
