Safeties for an International Student

I need help choosing some safety schools. I want to study something along the lines of International Relations.

So far I’ve decided on applying to Brown, Duke and UVA

I have 6 A*'s, 3 A’s and 1 B at GCSE ( British Curriculum - 9th and 10th grade)
and I’m currently doing the full IB diploma predicted between 38 - 40 points.

Have not taken SATs yet - will do in October

Main extra-curricular achievements are:

 • Violin: won a few awards
 • HK Award for young people - bronze
 • Founder/ Manager of HK’s first ever high school Ultimate frisbee team - currently playing for HKUPA and joining the Pan Asia tournament in October
 • HKMUN/ Debating
 • interned at HK Refugees Advice Center
 • Fundraiser for our school’s Amnesty international group
 • other stuff like School Council, Hockey team, math and history tutoring - (aren’t really important and I’m not too passionate about)

I’d like to go the US for uni but I’m not too familiar with many of the schools there. I’d just like to know what other match and safety schools I should apply for.

How will you pay for your education?

You need to sit down with your parents and carefully review just exactly where the money is going to come from. If you are paying for everything yourself, most public universities will be less expensive than Brown and Duke.

What do you want to study?

What job do you want to have after you finish your studies?

Do you prefer studying in one part of the USA or another?

Where do you expect to work after you finish your studies?

What colleges/universities in the USA have Ultimate frisbee teams or clubs?

Look at Iowa State University. Happynephew has friends who play UF there.
