I’m applying to top schools but there’s no telling what can happen. Please fill me in.

How much can you pay?

Even if your numbers flat-out guarantee admission at your home-state public U, if you can’t afford it, you won’t be able to attend.

You’re good at any schools that have an EE department, excluding Ivy schools. Ivy schools never a safety to anyone.

^^

Unless we know what the student’s family can afford, it’s difficult to determine what his safeties would be. There are many schools with very good engineering that don’t give great aid. For instance, as an OOS student at Purdue, he might get $9k in merit, but if his family won’t pay the remaining $30k+ per year, then that school could never be a safety for him.

What are your parents SAYING??? how much will THEY pay each year?

Getting accepted is only half the battle. If you can’t afford a school, then it can’t be a safety.

My mom is a single parent and she can pay about $30,000-$35000, the rest O.o
