Someone help me find schools good for CS that I have a chance at…Safety/Match/Reach

What I suggest is to first get a list of test optional schools, because ideally you want a school that’s ok with you not sending your test scores. Then after you have a list of schools go to their websites and see which have a cs major. I think there is a website call fairtest.org. It’s a good place to start.

What are your parents saying?

How much will they pay each year???

i’m guessing around 20k

Don’t guess. Ask them. Make sure they know colleges can cost upward of $70K/year now

ill be paying for most of my college through loans scholarships…etc

I hope you don’t expect to take all of that $20,000 in loans. As a freshman, you can only take out $5500. Anything more will require a co-signer, and it’s honestly best to minimize debt.

If you work during the year, you’ll have an extra few thousand.

Definitely re-take the ACT. A 3.4 will get you scholarships at some fine colleges, but a 23 will limit you.

I actually recommend my own college, La Salle University. The scholarships & financial aid are great. I had a similar GPA, and my net price was under $20k. We will take out some private loans, but you shouldn’t have to with your budget. (I’m an only child, with a financially stable non-custodial parent, so my situation is unique).

Also consider:
-Allegheny College
-Calvin College
-Canisius College
-Cedarville University
-Gordon College
-Marietta College
-Ohio University
-Xavier University

You can’t borrow that much. YOU can only borrow $5500 for frosh year.

How much will your parents be paying?

Not to be too pointed but with a 23 ACT and a 3.4 you won’t be pulling down big $ for scholarships.

Have you tried the SAT? If not, take a practice test (available through College Board’s website), and see how it compares. Depending on the results, I’d prep for either the SAT or ACT over the summer and take again in the fall.

Consider some of the Ohio LACs, like Wittenberg, Muskingham, Marietta. Knox College in Illinois is test optional and gives good merit aid, a 3.6 weighted might be enough to get some decent merit aid there.
