Safety School Search

Hi! I am a female rising senior and have decided what schools I want to apply to, but am clueless as to where to apply as a safety. My top choices for stretches/matches are Duke and Georgetown. I listed all of my “stats” below and would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

Possible majors, cost constraints, and state of residency?

Many of the schools in this list will be automatic admission with a large scholarship that will keep the costs down:

What major(s) are you interested in? What is your financial situation? What geographic restrictions do you have? Do you have a specific size of college in mind? What other colleges are already on your list besides Georgetown and Duke? What specifically do you like about the schools on your list (helps us give recommendations for similar schools)?

Also, it is very important to actually visit your “safety” school. You can’t really tell on paper if it is really a school you would want to attend. Quite a few students end up at their safeties, and it can take some hunting to find one you really like. Most people out here would advise you to give at least as much time searching for matches and safeties as you do for reaches.

I am from Pennsylvania, and possible majors would be History, Political Science, Psychology, or International Affairs.

I really hope I can go to law school and focus on special education law in the future, so any majors that lead me that way.

I don’t really have a need for financial aid, but it would be great to get some! I like larger colleges. I liked the surrounding area of Georgetown and the opportunities of living around DC, as well as their great academic history. I also am looking at UVA, Richmond, and Boston College but haven’t visited so I can’t say for sure if I will apply. I was a little late to all of the college planning, so I have only visited a few schools. I have 0 geographic restrictions and am open to all areas, but do prefer the Northeast as of right now.

No specific major is required to do pre-law. However, a high college GPA and LSAT score are a must. See [Welcome to LawSchoolNumbers.com | Law School Numbers](http://lawschoolnumbers.com) . Remember that law school is expensive, so you may want to consider going to a low cost undergraduate school to save money for law school.

I would say if you like Georgetown, you can look at BC (not a safety really) and Villanova (which should be a safety and I believe the school has nonbinding EA which is a big plus). And you would likely qualify for a good bit of merit aid at Fordham. If you like Duke you can consider Tulane (also has nonbinding EA) as a safety.

Pitt will offer you some money for those stats.

Might look at Holy Cross which offers great combination of academics and social life like Duke. HC is smaller version of Georgetown but easier to get into. Holy Cross also has one of the best alumni networks for jobs and the students do a lot of volunteer work.
