I am looking into schools for political science and so far I have found almost no safety schools. I don’t like many of the matches that Princeton Review comes up with so I would like to see CC’s suggestions. I already have Rutgers down as a safety school because I live in New Jersey but I need help on others. I would love to stay in the northeast but anywhere else is fine too. I would also like an LAC or a school that is not too big (exactly why I don’t like Rutgers.)

Okay, well I was asking for a school that is not tier 1. I should have said that. Sorry.

So far I like Lehigh, TCNJ, Bowdoin, and Smith. I know that none of them, except Bowdoin, have an extremely good government/political science department but I like the schools atmosphere a lot.

Bowdoin and Smith are both Tier 1 LAC’s in USNews and Lehigh is close to Tier 1 in National Doctoral Uni’s. Bowdoin in particular is a very difficult admit unless you have HYP stats. What are your reaches and matches?

I would consider Bowdoin, Smith, and Columbia my reach schools and Lehigh and TCNJ my match schools. I originally counted TCNJ as a safety school but because I know people with lower stats than mine that got into there with scholarships but then I read the incoming student profile and realized it would be a match. Rutgers is a safety but I would like more than just one safety school.

Karen, without details on your GPA, APs, class rank, SATs, SAT IIs and ECs, I don’t think we can really give you usefull advice. What is a safety to some is a reach to others.

While I agree with Alexandre, I’ll throw out a few ideas. I’d check on some of the New York and Pennsylvania LAC’s at the Franklin and Marshall ,Gettysburg , Skidmore, Union , Dickinson level for more matchy schools (from I can speculate anyway).

Yep, I second Ursinus and Drew. They were my two safeties; I was looking at top-tier LACs with good Poli Sci programs for where I wanted to go. :]
