'Safety' Science Research Programs

Hello, CCers :)!

Now that the application season for science research programs for summer 2012 has already begun, I was wondering if there are suitable “safety” programs. Well, programs that aren’t too hard to get into, I suppose, since I have this immense fear of getting rejected by everything I’m applying to.

I got into UF-SSTP last year, but went to UCD-YSP instead, and my parents don’t want me to apply to SSTP again.

Oh, and I’ll be applying to Simons, Garcia, Clark, HSHSP, and RSI (lolcrapshoots…), which kind of explains my desire for a backup plan, haha.

Thanks, everyone!

Oh, and one more question: is MITES only for minority students, like what the website emphasizes? Because I see a lot of non-minority CCers applying. It doesn’t help that I’m Asian-American…

I’m not sure if this is EXACTLY what you’re looking for but here are some:
[Carleton College: Carleton Summer Science Institute: The Carleton Summer Science Institute (CSSI) 2011](Carleton Summer Science Institute | Carleton College)
@ Carleton College

and on the MITES page itself there are a few other programs (<a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science)–%5B/url%5D”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science)– though I’m not sure if they’re all research based. I applied/accepted into MITES but I was also accepted into the one at UW-Madison, Carnegie Mellon SAMS ([SAMS: The Summer Academy for Mathematics + Science](http://www.cmu.edu/enrollment/summerprogramsfordiversity/sams.html)) and actually I suggest applying to the SAMS program because when I got my letter back, they actually “promoted me” into their AP/EA program and offerred me a full merit scholarship for the whole summer terms (I think ~$8000) so check that out!

Aside from that, apply to MITES- there were a few Asians in the program but not only that, out of the 1500 that applied, 80 were selected to MITES, 60 for this new weeklong program called E2@MIT (you can’t apply directly into the program, rather if you’re on the waiting list, you get to go here and I saw some pictures and there were A LOT of Asians as well as the other minorities) and then 60 more were invited to this online seminar which I heard was pretty cool!! Good luck!!!

You might want to look into UIowa’s SSTP. RSI and SSP rejected me, but both of the SSTPs accepted me, if that counts for anything.

Sorry for the late reply, guys; thanks so much for the input!
