Sales Tax for used books at UCLA Store

Do we need to pay the sales tax for used books at UCLA Bookstore?

this is an interesting questions (since it’s used you would imagine that sales tax has already been paid once) but i would imagine that since it’s a second transaction, state tax would have to be paid once again. (although you can solve this pretty easily by just going to the book store and asking them.)

You are so right about it! I did call UCLA store, they said “absolutely!”

Taxes are meant to be collected on any transaction. Hell, legally, you are supposed to give tax revenue to the government for a yard sale.

Of course there’s sales tax on used books. California is the land of taxes.

half and amazon don’t charge taxes ;)

^^^ Half/Amazon don’t have to charge taxes (for the moment) in states where they don’t have a physical brick and mortar presence (they do charge taxes for items shipped to a few states though). This leaves the taxes up to the consumer, in which few actually do pay a use tax to the government.
