Salisbury Nursing Program in Comparison

Salisbury University’s nursing program (BSN) is one of the possibilities for my D. During the generic campus visit the tour guides pointed to the Nursing Dept building and said something like “we’re not going to take you in there because it old and in disrepair”. And later when they were shown some supposedly High Fidelity manekins, the prospective students were told that no one really knows how to use them at all.

Are there any Salisbury nursing grads or current students that can chime in?
Do you have friends that went to other MD (or nearby universities) also for nursing and what do they tell you about their experience when compared to Salisbury?

The costs difference between Salisbury (as an in-state parent) and universities such as (out-of-state) Univ of South Carolina, Elon, University of Tennessee, etc are astronomically different.

Was Salisbury your first choice for College of Nursing? How much of that decision was based on overall cost too?

Not a nursing parent but just noting they show a high NCLEX pass rate since 2009 but I put an article below that showed 89% a few years ago. The national average seems to be 83% in 2023.

You should reach out to the program director (your student should actually) and get your questions answered and concerns addressed. Your student can also ask to speak to a student ambassador, someone in the program.

I hope you hear from folks on here - but I would do that regardless. If the tour was a school tour and not a tour with a nursing student or the nursing school, I probably would take what was said with a grain of salt - but validating is always a smart thing to do.

Good luck.

Maybe you could visit again or get virtual tour with nursing staff and students.

“SU’s graduate programs have received high praise from publications like U.S. News & World Report, which consistently has named SU’s online M.B.A. and graduate nursing programs among the nation’s best.”

Salisbury’s videos about nursing are from a few years ago

“Thanks to the highest quality teaching, local partnerships and strong pathways to the workforce, Salisbury is a leader in educating some of the best nurses in the state. SU has the highest pass rate on the NCLEX exam of all BSN programs in the state, and has a 10-year history of a 100% pass rate on the nurse practitioner certification exam. Our record of employment is also impressive, and illustrates the difference that SU students are making in our workforce. Based on data collected from the May and December 2023 graduating classes, 86% of all our health science graduates, including those in nursing, medical lab science, public health, and social work, are currently employed in Maryland.”

See WellNest and points of pride, such as efforts to prepare for NGN.
