Sallie Mae Unmet Need Scholarship

Has anyone ever applied for the Unmeet Need Scholarship?

My daughter applied this year.

bump…I’m applying and hoping to get it. But I shockingly rejected last year.

Since the application said the end of July & their phone recording says August, my daughter called to find out when they would notify & if it would be on their website first. (her school requires all financial info in & payment plans taken care of by Aug. 1st to have priority check-in, etc.) A message was left on our answering machine stating letters will be sent out this week or next. She said she was unsure if emails would be sent & any posting on the website would be by Sallie Mae & was sure it would be at least in the fall before that would happen. If you don’t mind me asking, what do they use for their criteria in the selection process. My daughter has a 5+ gpa & because I am disabled but not receiving SSI yet & single, our only income was child support…way below the $30,000. Our EFC is 0. Of course the unmet need is greater than the required $1000.

I applied for the scholarship as well, but haven’t heard back yet. :'-(

pgpc125: I am not sure what they use for their criteria in the selection process…but it’s probably on what you mentioned: GPA, unmet $, EFC, Financial Aid, etc.

I applied for it too! It would be a major help for me this year, NYU is soo expensive…I really hope I get it.

I applied to but haven’t heard back yet as well. I’m getting really anxious and I really need to know. Does anyone know what the phone number is? I couldn’t find it on the website.

Please excuse repeating part of an earlier post but for Ariana:

My daughter called & there is a recording saying the winners will be announced in Aug. (I think it said early) She left a message & that is when we received a message on our answering machine saying they would mail out the letters either the end of this week or next week from the Minn. office of Scholarship America. They won’t tell you on the phone if you were selected or not. We’re anxious too. We will have to pay to set-up a payment plan at her college since she doesn’t know yet. We found the # on the copy of the application we saved. Good luck all!!

Sorry. I just wanted to hear the message for myself, but I guess it doesn’t make much sense, does it? Anyway, thanks for sharing the information!

Received “Thank you for applying letter today…” Did not receive anything. Letter was usual due to the # of applicants…
Wow, wonder how they selected recipients. EFC-0, GPA-5.28, disabled single-parent home not receiving disability yet.
Well, congratulations to the winners & good luck to those that have not heard yet.

pgpc125, sorry to hear that. Have you checked out the USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship? Here’s their website: http://www.usafunds.org/about_usa_funds/news_archive/2007_news_releases/pr073107.htm</a>. It’s $1,500 a year (and renewable up to $6,000 or until you graduate–whichever comes first). The deadline is in February, so keep your eyes out for it. It’s for high school seniors and current undergraduates.

Also, if you have work-study and/or are volunteering, you may want to check out Students in Service at studentsinservice.org. Basically, you can get a scholarship for volunteering 300, 450, or 900 hours. There are more details on the website. Check it out though. 300 hours is about 6 hours a week of volunteering and/or work-study.

We have done a lot of searching but had never heard of either of these…thanks a lot!! She will be doing work study (hopefully), they go through an interview process due to shortage of positions She received the President’s Volunteer Service Award in May for 1,000 hrs. during her senior year, so she loves to volunteer. As a matter of fact she is planning on going into medical missions. Thanks for the info.

pgpc125, I received the same rejection letter. :frowning:
I got selected as a recipient for the USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship. The application was not tedious and long. Your daughter should apply for it next year  Good luck!

sorry to hear that you didn’t receive this one but congrats on the other…thanks!

pgpc125, how many people applied for this scholarship?

D got the “sorry but” letter today. Wow. Luckily her transfer school came through with an amazing FA package.

This scholarship seems competitive. I wonder what kind of super-kids win this scholarship.

Sorry, I don’t know

I wonder if anyone on CC was awarded.

unccharlotte, did you get rejected also?
