My school doesn’t officially send out ranks to everyone, but I managed to pry my class rank out of my former principal and I am the Salutatorian of the 2012 class of 364 (one of the best schools in the city).

How will this improve my chances for transfer admission to US colleges?

I am asking a real question here, unlike all of the ridiculous chance threads. How much emphasis do colleges place on Valedictorian/Salutatorian rankings?

I like the chance posts although hope no one takes them too seriously. They are useful because 30K CC students (or parents) think they (or their kids) can get into one of the 1600 slots at Harvard.

To try and answer your question, class rank is very important to most schools and being #2 is a huge positive, especially if you attend a top notch international school. Often the Ivies, for example, give extra weight to val/sal status and then the weight drops off sharply after that as they like to see that the student is one of the very best at his HS. In addition, there is something called the Ivy Academic Index, which is used primarily for athletes, but also gives an indication of weight given to class rank relative to SAT. Val/Sal status in the index is worth around 100 extra SAT points compared to top 5%.
