same publication title but different venues

During my graduate work in comp science I wrote a paper that was published in a conference. Later that paper was included as a chapter in an edited book in the field.

Is it ok to publish the same paper in multiple venues (in this case, a conference and a book).

In my resume, I list it as two items in the list of publications, one for conference and one for book. But since the paper title is the same, I am not sure how it is perceived in the resume.

Does someone know the perception of listing two items with same title in the resume (Since not both of them are conferences, may make it acceptable)?

You need to collapse the item on your CV so you do not appear to be giving the impression that it is two different publications.

Under “Publications,” list the entry in this fashion:

“Research Paper Title,” Conference Proceedings, Conference Name, Date, reprinted in Book Title, Editor Name, Place:Publisher Name, 2010.

Thanks for the helpful input.

Also, is it a good idea to include a university technical report in the publications list on resume of someone like me with only a couple of publications? I have seen even renowned professors listing technical reports in their list of selected publication but not sure if it looks like a feeble attempt at the desire for more publications in the resume.

I’m in the humanities. I have no idea what a technical report is.

Is the technical report kind of like a review paper?

I have only known them as “technical report” in my computer engineering field. It is a thesis-length report published by the university to be kept in library as well as the department (computer engineering). I am not sure what purpose they serve really, just a guess that may be help the professor get some grant/tenure.

CV-wise: heed Prof. X.
Conference/journal-wise: Each conference has their own rules regarding this. Check on the call-for-submissions page, and then email if you still have questions.
