Same Topic for EC Essay and Supplemental Essay

My topic for my extracurricular essay is my track and cross country teams and how I became involved in running.

One of the supplemental essay prompts for BC is:
"In his novel, Let the Great World Spin, Colum McCann writes:

“We seldom know what we’re hearing when we hear something for the first time, but one thing is certain: we hear it as we will never hear it again. We return to the moment to experience it, I suppose, but we can never really find it, only its memory, the faintest imprint of what it really was, what it meant.”

Tell us about something you heard or experienced for the first time and how the years since have affected your perception of that moment."

Would it be bad if I used the topic of a particular race that I competed in for this essay? Since I have already discussed running in my EC essay? I really want to write about that, but I’m not sure if it’s too repetitive. Thanks for any input…

I wouldn’t recommend using the same topic. The supplemental is supposed to help the college learn MORE about you then what you wrote on the CommonApp. By using the same topic, you wouldn’t be doing that.

I wrote about my experience of my first attempt to write a novel for this prompt, also. But then I reread it and it seemed like it didn’t fit the prompt because I created the experience, it wasn’t something that happened to me. But does anyone think that this actually could fit? It certainly reveals a lot about me.
