Not with the Galaxy, but we have had two Apple products where batteries exploded. My son’s was in his headboard…would have been really scary had it set something on fire.
There was an industry-wide issue of batteries catching fire on a range of laptop and electronic devices back in the late '00s which was traced to a manufacturing defect in a batch of Sony manufactured batteries.
Most of the press focused on Apple even though it also affected Dell, Sony, and other laptops/electronics.
This is likely another instance of a manufacturing defect of the battery and/or charger by a subcontractor.
It would be interesting to see in the next several weeks whether this battery issue is limited to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 or whether this also affects other smartphone/tablet models.
Especially considering it’d be highly unusual for battery manufacturers to only produce a line of batteries for just one specific company’s line of electronics.
