San Bernardino, CA Mass Shooting

I can be upset about more than one thing at once, and so can you, TatinG. I can be upset that fourteen people were killed in a mass shooting AND that humans are making the earth warmer AND that my county is striping highway interchanges wrong AND that my grocery store doesn’t carry my favorite kind of candy. I am large; I contain multitudes. And if I decide to pursue the lane-striping issue that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped being concerned about terrorism or global warming.

Racism is a pretty big deal.

I commend the young people like my kid’s friend who are in law enforcement. I think those of approximately the same age who are stomping their little feet on campus (a place they are privileged to be) to be petty and trifling by comparison.

Yes, you can worry about two things at the same time. How the deck chairs are arranged and that the Titanic is in fact sinking.

lje, there is no shortage of places on cc to rail on entitled college kids. This isn’t an opposing opinion; it’s an, IMO, tiresome tangent to this thread.

Isis and their ambitions to attack the USA is also a pretty big deal…we can argue gun control all we want , but if not guns, pipe bombs, pressure cooker bombs, machetes , chemical attacks. etc. The intent to kill en masse is a lot more frightening to me than , well anything right now.

Lje62, You are supposed to be afraid…people make a lot of money scaring the crap out of you…

The frightening thing about ISIS relative to the Taliban or Al Qaeda is that they are 21st century marketing geniuses. They have glossy magazines, they run a well oiled propaganda machine and they have a sophisticated and pointed online recruiting system. It’s as if they got the person behind the “I’d like to buy the wold a Coke” ad and put him to work selling Islamic Jihad.

dstark , I have been the one who didn’t stop traveling in the days following 9/11 , I was in Boston during the Marathon bombing…two of my daughters live there with the third wanting to move there. I am not ready to hole up in my home and stop living , but it is becoming increasingly dangerous to pretend that we are safe here in this country. I think it is naive to deny that ISIS is not a serious threat . I have family in Europe ( and several friends in several European countries ) that see things, experience things that are not covered with our media…I am not alone in my apprehension and feelings of being unsafe

CF, just want to say thank you for your posts on this thread. Bravo.

We spend $600 billion on defense. I am not talking about law enforcement.

They had 6,100 rounds of ammo?? Time to control the sale of bullets.

Also, to reference oh about 15 pages ago… I’m glad to see that this thread died after it came out that it wasn’t a white, Christian terrorist.

Has anyone heard anything about what the argument at the party might have been about?

You can buy those quantities of ammo online at Cabela’s and have it shipped to your home except in a few states (CA being one of them). Purchasing and having those weapons, unfortunately, is not a red flag.

Was that old school SNL? Gilda Radner?

At the news conference this morning, the sheriff said that witness accounts of whether there even was an argument at the party vary.

New Shimmer: It’s a floor wax AND a dessert topping!

^^^LOL, thanks. I knew something was familiar about that. And butterscotch pudding! I forgot such a thing even existed. Cannot remember the last time I had butterscotch pudding! Probably in the junior high lunch room, lol.

I wonder what his grandmother will say about living in her home with them, did she not notice the bombs, guns, the weapons deliveries? What about the family when they came to visit?
