San Bernardino, CA Mass Shooting

@InfinityMan, it won’t. That’s what is so frustrating.

There was a report of a shooter at D1’s campus this morning. School was locked down, then determined to be a false alarm. Luckily I knew nothing until it was over. D1 said it was very quick and no big deal.

Unfortunately a different set of families are not getting the same good news.

Of all the places… This is akin to attacking a school for the blind. I hope they get the batars.

Just so awful. I am speechless. This place is a little over 2 hours away from where I live but only 30 min from my sister and her family. Just too close.

heart-breaking…
bless the victims, their families, & others affected by this heinous crime.

The shooting of the week, I guess. It’s tragic but not at all unexpected.

Now the local news says there is a SWAT situation in Pasadena that may be related??

Ok news says Pasadena situation is not related. I’m turning the TV off now.

I was listening to CNN on the car radio while I was running errands and one of the reporters asked a law enforcement official if she had any idea why they just saw a long line of squad cars/law enforcement cars race away from the scene. The woman didn’t know why - I’m wondering if it’s the Pasadena thing.

I haven’t yet, but I’m about to text D (in LA) and and ask her if she has any plans out of the house tonight - I hope not.

Edited - OK, scratch the Pasadena scenario, but they did say a long line of cars was racing away from the scene.

I also heard that, although the Regional Center’s work mostly is to deal with people with developmental disabilities, someone did say that they sometimes rent their conference facilities to outside organizations, and that today, the event that was going on was for county employees, and the shootings were all in the auditorium where the event was going on. It was supposedly a holiday event. So perhaps not specifically seeking out people with disabilities.

I don’t care anymore. The people in this country refuse to take any action to change things and getting upset about these things doesn’t change anything either. I refuse to react by “phoney praying” for the victims and their families.

About all we know there has been a shooting, a mass one, and that more than a few people are dead. I would discount 99% of what is coming out on the news, they are racing twitter in seeing who can come out first with “facts”, whether they are true or not. This could be a lot of things, could be some kind of employment dispute, could be the shooters were looking to shoot up ‘the government’ (if in fact this was a government facility), we don’t know. A friend of mine at work heard disabilities, and wondered if maybe this was a place that worked with disabled veterans and that might have been the reason, but it doesn’t sound like that from what little has been said about the place. I think what makes this worse is you have social media racing to put out ‘information’, the so called news media tries to copy it, and what we have is wild speculation all over the place. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was 1 or more morons out looking to make themselves famous ie thrill killers playing out some twisted fantasy, rather than an organized attack.

According to the local news, the shooting took place in a conference center, the room of which had been rented out to local a business. No word on what kind of business… and of course, early news reports can have incorrect info.

@bluebayou - I’ve heard several people on the radio who work at the Regional Center say it was a sort of ‘holiday’ event for county employees.

Are we willing to tolerate conditions as thought we live in Moscow, Johannesburg, Jerusalem or Rio de Janiero, where those whom can afford it live behind high walls and are regularly accompanied by armed security?

^^ I agree, and also the non-stop media coverage fuels the desires of copycats

What’s the alternative? We’ll never get rid of guns in this country. Even if we outlawed all of them tomorrow, they’d just go underground and be around for the next 200 years or so.

i loathe the cynicism in myself that has grown as more of these reports come out…month after month. The news yesterday: "Black Friday shoppers sought to buy a record number of guns on the nation’s biggest retail holiday — about two every second — eclipsing a previous record set in the days after the Sandy Hook massacre. " sickens me more. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/black-friday-sets-record-gun-background-checks-article-1.2452447

I heard the director of the facility (maybe not her exact title, but she sounded like “the boss”) say that she believes the facility was rented out to the Department of Health/County Health - something like that.

The bad guys here are not the media. The media is trying to feed the human frenzy of wanting news. It is our job as humans/citizens to take early information as either possible/speculation/fluid etc.

I understand what you mean about “phoney praying” earlier poster (emilybee??) So I’ll extend my sympathies and support to the families currently wondering and worrying in that local area.

Outlawing guns isn’t the solution but it’s a damn good start.

So would adding white and/or Christian terrorist orgs to our terror radar.

Are you going to volunteer to take the guns away from criminals?

I’d rather have the right to defend myself, or at least to try to defend myself.

And the second part of your comment is highly offensive: real Christians don’t murder people; that is not a Christian act. Notwithstanding the racial tone.
