“There is some speculation that this attack may have been a semi-impulsive add on attack”
They destroyed their computer hard drives the day before. So not so impulsive.
A lot of analysts are confused by the choice of target, since it’s not symbolic. Perhaps that’s the genius of the attack – it’s so soft, so everyday, that it makes it scarier.
Arm every Muslim, black, and latino person and you’re guranteed to have a legislation passed that curtails gun sales. Either that or there will be attempts to ratify the Second Amendment to restrict certain persons (read the above listed) from purchasing guns. It’ll be worded very nicely and would be in the interest of ‘national security’, of course.
This was already done in the late 60s by then Gov Ronald Reagan. When Blacks started openly carrying, Reagan along with the NRA crafted the Mulford Act, which repealed open carry. I’ve come to the conclusion Ohios open carry doesn’t apply to folks who look like me. We are still waiting for justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford. Both of whom were gunned down while holding toy guns.
Just noticed dstark already posted this link. I apologize for the repetition, but this piece is brilliant. I grew up in a home with guns and have no issue with someone who wants a handgun for self-defense or a hunting rifle. But civilians are not entitled to build an aresenal.
I usually don’t have anything important or intelligent to say about terrorism or gun control. However, I am learning a lot reading through this thread.
But, I would be the first in line to vote (if they would ever let the nation vote on this important issue) to ban the manufacture and sale of automatic weapons and ammunition for these types of weapons. I cannot fathom that our forefathers ever meant to provide the freedom to bear automatic, mass killing weapons. And, I would vote to ban any sales of guns at gun shows, through catalogs or on the Internet.
Let the hunters stop and reload one or two bullets at a time if they have to.
The FBI is finally investigating this attack as a terrorism incident. Wow, TWO DAYS for people to perceive this as not “postal”. This couple is pathetic.
It is incredible that individuals on the no-fly list and terrorist watch list are still able to legally purchase guns. If we need to take baby steps towards curtailing our nation’s obsession with gun ownership rights, this is a logical first step.
Now that they’re calling the San Bernardino shooting a terrorist incident, I hope the talk doesn’t turn entirely to immigration and that there is still a focus on gun control.
The latter. Just like Sandy Hook. I drive by the Sandy Hook exit on I-84 taking my son to school in Boston. I can’t help but feel sad and depressed whenever I see that sign.
As an aside, one of the photos shared of the “shooter” was actually his brother, a decorated Navy vet. This is why people (media included and especially) shouldn’t share names and photos until information is confirmed.
