San Diego Meetup January 2027?

Any interest in getting together again this summer? We’ve done it twice over the years. Anyone visiting that would like to meet us (or wouldn’t mind meeting us, at least)?

If there’s some interest, we can start narrowing down timeframes and then location. I’m good except for Comic-Con weekend (July 22-26).

At first glance I misread your post amd thought you were suggesting meeting up at Comic-Con, and I thought that sounded like an awesome idea!

(I’m not up for traveling this summer though, but I hope you all have fun!)

Comic-Con is in fact the only visit we are likely to make to San Diego this year! (But of course very busy…)

I have tickets for Thursday-Friday-Sunday of Comic-Con - concentrating on panels this year.

It’s our first time!

I finally got a Sunday ticket two years ago on the 9th try since moving here. Then last year I got Thursday and Sunday. I did tons of research to figure out what was best for me and my dislike of standing and crowds. I’ve figured out how to enjoy it on my terms.

If you haven’t discovered the SDCC Unofficial Blog, it’s a treasure trove of information.

But the CC (Comic-Con) is not the best place for a CC (College Confidential) meetup.

I am up for a San Diego meetup if others want to. Is anyone coming to visit San Diego in the next few months?

We were supposed to have a team offsite in La Jolla, but it got cancelled.

We are thinking about visiting San Diego maybe in January…guess that’s a bit far away!

Hey Marilyn, I’m game!
Even if it’s just a couple of us. Is anybody interested in going to Del Mar? Right now, with the Fair, and the racing season, and multiple outdoor concerts, the venues will be full. It will be interesting!
The only restriction I have is in late September. I’ll be having surgery, so I’ll be out for a while after that.

(No more Comic Con for me. I went through that for 10 years. It’s just way too big for me. Even the kids stopped going because it requires a heck of a lot of planning.)

No objectives to Del Mar per se but I’d rather stay away from the race track. Love Jake’s, for example. The trick is finding a lunch place with parking, likely on a Saturday since that’s the day people are mainly free. I know where to do that in my area (Shelter Island, Harbor Island, etc.) but not so much along the coast further north.

So far you, me, and @showmom858. The Shores in La Jolla looked interesting but how would parking be?

Let’s give it some time; not sure if there’s anyone else living nearby.

@thumper1 , happy to do it in January!

@Marilyn The La Jolla Shores Hotel (we locals still call it The Sea Lodge) has underground parking and they validate. I can do weekdays too.

I’m also in for a January meetup if @thumper1 is in town. I would love to meet her especially since she lives in CT whereD1, SIL and GD now live!

I’ve gotten to meet @thumper1 several times when she’s in Phoenix visiting her son, and I’m hoping to meet up with her sometime this summer when she comes up to her place in Maine which is not that far from us. And, she always makes the Maine meetup.

I highly recommend making it a point to meet @thumper1.

ETA: I might be able to make a San Diego meetup in January as we’ll be back in AZ then and all of DH’s family is in southern CA so good reasons to make the trip.

This is motivating me to discuss this trip with DH!

I have had the pleasure of meeting a bunch of CC folks over the years, and am pleased to call some of them not just online friends but IRL friends.

Everyone has been fantastic to meet. I do hope to drive north soonish to visit @choatiemom in her summer home, and I also hope to drive a little south to meet another person for lunch soon too. And I have a tentative but not yet set date to meet a third person this summer as well…not all that far from home.

I haven’t been to San Diego since my DD went on an accepted college visit to U of San Diego. During that long ago visit, I had lunch with a former CC person who was actually a college counselor at the time and was the one who suggested the colleges my kid applied to in CA…anyone else remember Carolyn? She was terrific.

I’m OK with January!

Please make sure that you bring sweaters and windbreakers for rain. But then again, you might need flip-flops. In other words, plan for all types of weather because we never know what we’re gonna get in San Diego in January. This past year January was very cold we had early mornings in the high 30s on some days.

If we’re going with January, I’ll be back in the area. I’d love to come down from south OC.

This is sounding positive! I’ll update in the fall, find out when people can come and where they’ll be so we can identify a convenient time and place.

@thumper1 sounds very popular!

Perhaps worry about the weather closer to the time - all my favorite places have outdoor heaters!
