San Diego State Housing - Class of 2028

My son is going to attend SDSU in the Fall (Class of 2028). He will be majoring in Computer Science. Is there a Freshman dorm that anyone can recommend or not recommend?

He is not in the local service area (south of Hwy 56)? Local students are not guaranteed on-campus housing.

If he joins a Learning Community, he will be slotted wherever they are put this Fall, but they are not always assigned to the same dorm year to year, so hard to predict.

The students accepted to Weber Honors College are historically housed in Zura, but Zura is not exclusively WHC.

If he is not in an LC or WHC, he will be assigned randomly. You can find video reviews of the different dorms on Youtube if that helps you know what’s coming. But here are a few comments:

Chapultepec & Huaxyacac (aka Chappy and Washy):
Con- some consider these “further” from the main area of campus
Pro - Food trucks that exclusively serve these 2 dorms because they are a bit away from the other food options on the Meal Plan.

Maya & Olmeca:
Older dorms

South Campus Plaza:
Rooms have private en-suite bathrooms. Trader Joe’s and various restaurants on the Meal Plan are right downstairs.

I don’t have info on University Towers or Tenochca.

Thank you. That is very helpful. He is not “local.” We live near Sacramento.

Here are the virtual tours for all the Freshman dorms and also the SDSU map which shows the location of the dorms. The majority of the dorms will be on the south east side of campus with the exceptions of Chapultepec and Huaxyacac which are on the far west side of campus. Many including the Old brick dorms of Maya and Olmeca have been renovated within the last 5-6 years.
