San Diego

I’m going to San Diego next week for a few days. I hear that the weather is always lovely there, but I’m wondering what the evenings are like, and will I need a coat or jacket?

evenings are cool and sometimes breezy. you will need a jacket, but not a parka.

the flower fields in carlsbad (a little north of san diego) are blooming right now. you can google the website for more information.

Thanks! I’ll google that site too.

Bring a light jacket. This time of year, I recommend people dress in light layers, then you can add or subtract easily as needed. Heat waves can pop up. It was 100 degrees in downtown LA earlier this week, breaking a 95 year record.

Definitely be prepared for cool evenings. They almost always are. Although we have had some hot weather, usually SD is mild rather than hot, and visitors often do not have warm enough attire.

Definitely bring a light jacket or sweater. Last weekend was very hot with 90 degree temps at the coast. My D was competing in a hunter/jumper horseshow and when she took her hunt coat off Sunday afternoon she was dripping sweat!

This coming week looks to be mild, but evenings are always cool where we are as it’s about a mile from the ocean. I would reccommend lunch or dinner in La Jolla one day and a walk around the village. You can see the “cow parade,” check out the shops and also visit the beach and see the seals at the Children’s Pool. Some places we like for casual dining are The Spot, My Place and the patio on top of George’s. If you want mexican food and great margaritas try Alfonso’s.

Right now it’s overcast and a little chilly. It’s gray and gloomy. Yesterday was beautiful. Go figure…

Just got back from SD over Easter weekend. It was gloomy about half the time we were there. I would recommend keep a close eye on the weather channel and bring layers. The breeziness made it cool i nthe evenings even when the day was warm

A nice but $$ restaurant is Laurel, on Laurel Street in downtown San Diego.

I ditto the others to bring a light jacket. There are times where there can be low clouds (but no rain), especially right on the coast, which can cool things down.

I hope you have fun while you’re here.

What great suggestions! You San Diego people are very nice. How did y’all come by that “Southern Hospitality” in California. :D

It’s “southern california” after all.

check the 10 day forecast at an online weather site. Son goes to school there - it can be warm in the daytime and chilly at night, as everyone has said.

Comfortable shoes - sandals. Going to the beach? What part of San Diego are you planning on visiting? There are lots of things to see and do!

I always want a sweater or sweatshirt when in California…if nothing else, sometimes the restaurants are cold with the air conditioning blowing like a wind!!

Have fun…San Diego is wonderful…great food…lots to see and do…excellent restaurants…haven’t been there in a couple of years so can’t really name names… but we were down by the Civic Center…and there are numerous spots for lunch or dinner along the marina…

If you forget your sweater, buy a sweatshirt at the Zoo, the Maritime Museum, or one of the colleges… Lots of shopping opportunities for tourists!

You will need a jacket/sweater at night and in air conditioning. Sun screen all the time, even if it looks overcast. We had guests from England over Easter, they didn’t believe the sunscreen even if overcast thing—really burnt faces.
I always recommend really comfortable walking shoes for the zoo, I love it but it’s a little hilly.
Have FUN!

Tip top meat European Deli is very close to the Carlsbad flowers. Google it. Large yummy portions at low cost. Unique, reminds me a bit of phillipes (sp) in the ordering. Also a grocery store and meat market.
