It’s so strange. Electrical Engineering has always been around 4000 or higher for Impaction, but for some reason, in 2026, it is down to 3000 (less selective impacted major). I wonder why that’s the case? It’s my understanding that most of universities are getting tons more EE applicants lately so seems like it should be more and not less impacted!
D23 is in her 3rd year of Comp Eng at SJSU and has some EE classes and she said there have been some changes to the course catalogue to make it easier to graduate in 4 years…I would imagine that would result in some change in capacity within these engineering majors. Could it be that while still impacted, intake capacity has improved for the major? So that they can actually accept more students which would explain the lower impaction index?
Interesting. Thanks for the perspective. Computer Engineering is still 4800ish, so I wonder if these course catalog changes are exclusive to EE or perhaps the simplest explanation is that they are accepting a LOT more EEs due to capacity improvements.
No, any changes were definitely not EE exclusive because D23 is under the CMPE major/dept (which also hosts the SE major) and CMPE flowcharts/roadmaps have changed for sure. She had her advising appt last month and was made aware of the changes. The engineering programs at SJSU continue to be very strong….Tons of smart, hard-working kids and plenty of opportunities to explore/further their interests (engineering clubs, etc).
