<p>I remember there was a push for SJSU to become a UC. Is this push still in progress or they dropped it?</p>
<p>I do not see it happening. A UC costs a lot more to operate than a CSU since they require larger administrative staffs, higher faculty salaries and substantially more libraries and laboratory facilities to make them research universities. The money just is not there. Also, I think the University of California is putting a very high priority on making UC Merced successful and would not want students going to SJSU rather than UC Merced. That area is already close to two existing UCs, UCB and UCSC, and there would be questions as to whether another expensive UC in San Jose is really needed.</p>
