I am most likely going to be attending Santa Fe College in the Fall of 2014. My intended goal in the future is to receive a degree from the University of Florida in Finance. But, Santa Fe does not have a Associate of Arts / Advisement Track for Finance. They do have one for Business Administration though, which is a category you could put Finance in.

My question is, should I declare my major at Santa Fe as Business Administration, or undeclared? If Business Administration, will that get in the way of me eventually obtaining a Finance degree from UF? I’m a bit new to this, so I hope all this makes sense.

Choose UF, Finance

These will be all the classes you need to complete prior to attending UF.

By the way, almost all business majors at UF have the same prerequisites, so when you apply to UF if you feel like changing to a different business major you can.

Choose Business Administration as your major at Santa Fe. Your major really doesn’t matter with an AA degree, it’s most likely just so that your academic adviser can keep you on track for UF’s requirements

I don’t even know why Santa Fe has those advisement tracks. I mean, obviously they know what they’re doing since they transfer so many students to UF, but the advisement tracks aren’t always accurate. There is an advisement track for agriculture. There are several majors at UF that fall under agriculture and they all have different pre-reqs. My intended major is Ag Education and there were a couple pre-reqs that weren’t on Santa Fe’s list. Check the link that ryan gave you and fit those in to the AA requirements for Santa Fe.

Check the current transfer req for UF. I believe as of right now you will need a 3.7 over the pre req classes (fin acct, man acct, macro, micro, cgs, calc, and stat) to be able to apply.

That’s not an insignificant increase, from 3.5 to 3.7 (for Heavener School of Business). Ouch

“Fall 2014 and Later: Complete the seven required prerequisite business courses (see below) with a minimum 3.7 GPA. You can submit your application when you’ve completed four of these, including Financial Accounting. At that point, if you’ve earned a 3.7 prerequisite GPA and have the remainder of the seven courses in progress, we will conditionally admit you to our school. This requirement must be met prior to the application deadline. If you do not have four of these courses completed, including Financial Accounting, and a 3.7 prerequisite GPA, then you must apply for a later term after meeting the requirement.”

3.7 for a public school business major in my eyes is high. Being that you are only allowed 2 Bs it puts a ton of pressure on a student in difficult classes like Fin acct.
