I’m graduating from UCLA this spring and I’m enrolled at Santa Monica College for summer and fall 2012 to take pre-req courses for grad school (nursing). I met with a counselor today to ask a few questions, but I’m still unsure about a few things and would like to hear the perspective of current/previous SMC students.

Is it difficult to enroll in Chem 10 (or 11) over summer? Will talking to the professor help at all? I was hoping to finish my pre-reqs (microbio, anatomy and physiology I and II, chem 10, 11, and 12) by the end of spring 2013 but now I’m not sure if that plan will work out because of all I’m hearing about enrollment issues for science classes. What is your experience with enrollment for these classes?

Also, is anyone familiar with the chem placement test that can be used to test out of Chem 10? I may take it but I’m very, very rusty with my chem and it’s not my strongest subject… Any thoughts on it? Is it even truly helpful to take Chem 10 if I’ve taken chem in high school? I don’t want to waste time taking Chem 10 if Chem 11 covers the same material anyway.

Any information would be appreciated! Thank you!!!
