Hello!
I am writing a SAP appeal. My reason for my bad grades has to do with my mental health (including self harm). However I have no documentation and won’t be able to see a professional until after August 14th. The deadline for the application is August 15th. I have documentation that I will be out of the country, but nothing else. Do I have any chance at getting my appeal approved? Thank you!
“Any chance”? Yes, but I suspect what you want to know is “how much of a chance,” and no one here can answer that question for you.
I have to tell you, though, if I was considering your appeal, my first question would be “this person had/has a mental health issue that involves self harm and significantly affected academic performance, and he/she left the country on a foreign trip before seeking treatment/assistance?” The facts as you present them lead me to question your motivation to get better.
I left the country 3 days after school ended. I didn’t have the courage to disuss my mental situation with my parents until during the trip. Even if I had discussed it in the few days I had before hand, they couldn’t have done anything for me. I didn’t plan the trip or had the choice to go. It was a family event that had been planned months ahead of time in order to see relatives.
The other thing your school will likely want is some statement from the professional you see that you are actually getting help…and are able to return to college.
I’ll be frank. I can’t imagine how you are going to get that when you won’t even be seeing anyone until August 15.
