SAP Suspension

Hello~

I got put on financial aid suspension for completion rate. I dropped a class because I was failing and didn’t want it to affect my GPA. Unfortunately, it backfired on me. Do you think that the meds I take for bipolar disorder, which cause problems with cognition, would be a valid reason to use in my appeal letter? The class I dropped was a math class and I do have trouble comprehending it. I received all A’s in my other classes because they were very easy for me to understand. Any help would be much appreciated.

No. Because your medication is not something you are changing, & it’s something that is ongoing that you were aware of, and so should have had supports for already in place.
Sorry.
Did you meet with the prof prior to dropping the class?

Generally in a SAP appeal you need to explain (briefly) what happened, take responsibility for what happened, and detail (briefly) a plan for what you will do differently in order to keep it from happening again.

You could mention the meds as contributing to the problem, but then would likely need to detail what you will do differently in regards to medication moving forward.

Your best option may be to take the class over which will either replace or average the grade.
Supports you could put in place would be- different med which didn’t affect you so much.
Meeting regularly with the prof and study groups as well as tutoring, before you get into trouble.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely take them into consideration.
