Hello Everybody!
I took the SAT for the first time on October 3rd, 2015 and scored a 1990 (CR 680, M 660, W 650). I am a senior in high school and im planning on applying to some CSUs and other state schools on the west coast (ex. oregon state). My question is should I try the sat a second time to shoot for a better score or is my score in line with the schools I want to apply to?
Thank you!
I would try it again. You have nothing to lose (assuming the $40 isn’t a problem), and I bet you could do better with an extra month or two of prep. However, your SAT score is respectable as is and would likely qualify you for the schools you’re looking at, considering the 75th percentile for Oregon State is around 1800. Good luck, and I hope you get into your first choice.
Usually people do better the second time, and you should try it unless it interferes with application deadlines. CSUs don’t require standardized tests, so you don’t need to worry as much about that.
thank you for the responses!
You could take it again for more/better scholarship opportunities. Some preparation should definitely raise your score if you work hard at it. If you scored that good a score your first time around, buy the blue book and do some of the tests. The owner’s area on college board has explanations for each question of the test. Read all the explanations regardless if you got it wrong or right and that should be all the prep you need.
M and W are pretty easy to prep, and your CR score is already solid for your goals. I bet you can get M and W over 700 with just a few weeks of prep, so I’d recommend going for it. Can’t hurt.
