So I’m an Indian male applying as a communications major to penn and English to brown as my top 2. However, I just got my lit sat 2 back and bombed it (620) however, I have 800s on math 2 and physics. My ECs are very journalism/writing/humanities geared. Will these sat 2s hurt me in any way because I am not applying as an engineering or stem major? Will it hurt a lot, a little, or not at all?
There is one college, Georgetown, that requires you to provide all subject test scores. If not applying to it, you can choose to withhold the literature score and likely doing so will not have any impact (Georgetown is the only college that recommends three subject test scores; all others that require or recommend subject tests mention sending two). However, a 620 is actually a decent score and not “bad” enough to really be considered against you in determining admission.
It’s an issue. Now that that’s said, catch your breath and make sure you meet these colleges’ expectations in every other way. Try to get a solid read on what that is.
You have some related ECs, but also the stem club and now top scores in stem Sat 2s. They may wonder how you chose to indicate hopes for comms and English. Did you arrange to take an English class in senior year? Do you know yet how to make your best presentation in the app and any supp?
You said in another thread that you read slowly. Obviously, that can impact this test. Any chance your GC or an English teacher will go to bat for you in the LoR, show how your strengths outweigh this score?
Also, sorry about this, but WA state isn’t underrepresented in the applicant pool fo top colleges on the east coast. The idea right now is to learn what you can about what these colleges like, do the best to fine tune and be savvy in how you approach. When you hit the Submit button, you want the sense you did try your best, regardless of the later results.
