I took the SAT in November 2018 and got a 1550 with a 6/4/6 essay. I took the ACT in February 2019 and got a 34 composite (35E, 35M, 33R, 31S). My goal is to major in neuroscience at UofM or get into a BS/MD program. How much will the 31 science score hurt my chances? Would it be better to send the 1550 (to the BS/MD schools)?
@evergreen5@Mwfan1921 My concern with the SAT score is that I did not do well on the essay (6/4/6), which, although optional, may hurt how colleges view my application.
With regard to U of M (I assume you mean Michigan) they do not require, nor recommend, the SAT/ACT essay. Michigan requires two essays and a personal statement in addition to your common app essay…so they are going to get a solid perspective of your writing. While some may say “but the AOs won’t be able to unsee the SAT essay scores”, those essay scores will be a very small part of the holistic view of your application package…said differently, if you aren’t accepted it won’t be because of your SAT essay score.
Lastly, for the schools that allow self-reporting of test scores (typically via whatever application you are using, e.g., common app), I would not load in your SAT essay scores.
