SAT/ACT minimum

Do any/most schools have a minimum score below which they automatically throw your app in the “circular file”?
I remember last year a classmate was “gearing up” to retake the SAT because she wanted to go to Fairfield and she needed to attain at least a 1100/1600.
Manhattan/Siena 1200/1600.
Another friend mentioned, don’t waste the app fee to the top 20 schools if you didn’t have a minimum of 1400/1600.

I’m not accounting for any hooks, such as legacy, athletic, etc.

Any truth to this?

Yes, there is definitely truth to it. I would check out the SAT/ACT ranges on College Board to give you a good indication as what their requirements are.

I’m pretty sure the top 20 won’t toss an application immediately upon seeing a lower-than 1400/1600 score. You can definitely compensate an SAT score like this, and I would still apply

no1 ‘tosses’ ur file regardless of whether u score a 600 or a 2400, however if ye apply to an ivy with a composite of less than 1200-1300/1600 CR+M yer gonna make adcoms a bit skeptical bout the rest of yer file

the reason theyd not throw it out is coz ye could hypothetically be a stellar kid from a low income family who could only afford to do the SAT once and the day of the SAT ye happened to catch… idk dengue or somein random, which affected yer performance in the test =o

People who get into ivies with below 2100 almost always happen to be URM/developmental cases/athletes.
