SAT admission anomaly?

Every time I look at the average SAT scores, with say the range being 650-770 as an average, there are a few anomalies (as in under 5 people) that get admitted even though their math or verbal is below 500, sometimes even 400.

For top schools, what do you guys think causes these low score students, in either verbal or math, to be admitted? Is anyone out there an ‘admission anomaly’? I think you could write a book on the stories behind those people - they must have something special.

Children of donors…If you gave me $20million I’ll teach your kids whatever you want!

or recruited athletes

or be a severely underrepresented minority…

or if your family makes like $12k a year and you work full time at their grocery store while going to school at the same time while taking care of your younger siblings

sometimes it’s something like a student that is an amazing musician but isn’t very good at math

its understandable that a person whose native language isnt english would get sub 500 on the verbal. I know they dont require SAT1 from non native speakers, but some take it anyway

Bump

Yeah, it’s pretty much people who are very good at something that’s non-academic. Or they’re just crazy rich.
