SAT Again or try the ACT?

Hello all! I’m currently a junior, and I need help deciding if I should take the SAT again or try the ACT. Before the SAT, I had been working with a tutor, but I could continue with her for either test if needed. Here are my scores for the SAT:

Critical Reading:680
Writing: 630, essay score of 9
Math: 610
Total: 1920

The essay prompt was difficult, and I think I could raise my essay score, and I could work with my tutor to raise the math as well I think. However, I just my first PRACTICE ACT and these were my scores:

English: 32
Math: 25
Reading: 34
Science: 25
Composite: 29

So CLEARLY I sucked at the math and science with no prep, but did (at least I think) pretty darn good in the english and reading. So, which test do you think I should take? I’m looking to get and AND get scholarships. My UW gpa is around a 3.8 and my weighted will probably be around a 4.3, I have 9 AP classes and more than 3,000 hours of community service work. These are the schools I’m looking at, in order:

  1. Dickinson College (Spanish and/or International Studies Major)
  2. University of Richmond (Spanish and/or International Studies Major)
  3. Gettysburg College (Spanish and/or International Affairs Major)
  4. Rochester Institute of Technology (Industrial Design Major)
  5. James Madison University (Studio Art w/ Industrial Design and/or Spanish and/or International Affairs)

Thanks!

bump!

Take the ACT. Your SAT is below average for most schools listed. A 29 puts you right in the middle

Did you like the feel of the ACT? most people take to one or the other. If you liked the ACT, then I’d agree with patriot420- there are a handful of useful tips that will help you get the speed to get through it in good time. Good luck!

I really liked the reading and writing sections, and I did like the type of math questions, I just felt crunched on time. But I absolutely hated the science!
