could a horrible SAT score like a 1980 be offset by great ECs (like fundraisers and community projects) for 10 schools?

Depends on the schools. If you’re looking at high level Ivies, or other extremely competitive schools, then probably not, because alot of people have extremely good ECs so you wouldn’t really stand out as much. Possibly for less competitive schools.

Since when is a 1980 SAT score horrible? Average SAT score at UC Berkeley and UCLA is around 2005 or so, and it’s around 1960 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
