SAT as a soph?

Is it advisable to take the SAT as a soph if you're pretty sure you can get 2200+?
or is there something that you learn later that makes it imperative to take the test during junior year.

The SAT Math only goes up to Alg. II, and you should learn the Writing by the time you're in 10th grade, and CR doesn't depend on grade level. If you want, you can definitely take it as a sophomore. People prefer to take it their junior year because they're "older and wiser," but I honestly don't think there's a big difference.

I took the SAT in 6th and 8th grade before I took it for real in HS. Our school's SAT & ACT person advised me not to take the SAT again until I was taking it for real, but she said it was a good idea for me to take the ACT. Of course, this was before SAT score choice was around, but some schools still don't go for score choice.
If you think there's a possibility that you'd get a low score that would be bad for colleges, you shouldn't take the SAT. But if you still want to see how good or bad you are at standardized tests, you should take the ACT, since the scores usually correlate and you can hide that from colleges more easily if it's bad.

I took the SATs as a sophomore and it helped me get a lot more comfortable with them. The year gap between administrations was nice also.

Wait until your junior year. if you feel really confident, take it early in ur junior year. Just really, do as much prep as possible. No one can be "sure" that they will get a 2200+. Honestly, there is absolutely no need to take it as a sophomore. I guarantee you are just an understandably anxious sophomore who wants to see how he/she will do on the SATs, but really, just wait. It is much more advisable. You really only have three real shots at it before it becomes gratuitious, so make sure those are three GOOD shots.

I would wait until your junior year...because I simply think I have gotten much smarter from then, you probably will to

Sophomore PSAT: 166 Horrible Horrible Horrible!!
Junior PSAT: 192 Not bad, took it cold, but not where I want to be
Kaplan PR: 2000
May SAT: Projecting 2100+, will find out in a few hours!

It really depends on the person, but I think that my Junior year was very academically rigorous and made me much more competent...dont risk a poor SAT on your score report, wait till spring of junior year

If you want to know how you will do, take practice tests and practice so you can do better!

Take it now--you will be able to take it multiple times, yes? If so, there's really no disadvantage to taking it now, and it'll better prepare you for taking it again as a junior: you'll have more time to study and improve, and more practice under your belt too.

Of course, I say this as someone who regrets /not/ taking the SAT earlier, so. Obvious bias here.

I just got a 2030 as a sophmore on the May SAT. Could this have a positive or negative effect?

I just took it for the first time and got 750 CR, 800 math, 800 writing (2350)
I'm not gonna retake because its so unlikely that ill do any better in CR, and ill probably lower my other scores.
