My boyfriend had unfortunate luck with the college admissions process, and unfortunately did not get in anywhere he applied. He has good SATs (around 2200s I believe) but primarily Cs in honors and A.P. classes.

Does anyone know any colleges that prioritize SAT and test scores over grades in classes, to help him out with his re-applications next year?

He should try the community college route and transfer later. I’ve seen quite a few former cc students attended our flagship state u. Let’s be honest about this, given his grade, a gap year probably is not in his best interest.

Some schools publish their Common Data Set or CDS; Google can usually find them. Check section C7 for the importance of various factors (e.g., Academic GPA and Standardized Test Scores). Section C9 gives a profile of the last enrolling class. As an example see [Reed College 2007-08 Common Data Set SecC](Reed College 2007-08 Common Data Set SecC - Institutional Research - Reed College). In this case you can see that Reed places more importance on GPA than SAT, but hopefully you can find schools with the opposite emphasis (but I think they’ll be hard to find). Community college may indeed be the best route.

In this day and age, most high school students are expected to get mostly grades of A, but I would encourage the applicant to keep applying to colleges still accepting applications. Maybe starting this fall somewhere that will let him in and then getting better grades will allow a successful transfer application later.

Use [College Search - SAT Registration - College Admissions - Scholarships](http://www.collegeboard.com) to search for 4 year colleges, plug in his SAT and look for schools where at least 25% of the students have GPA’s below 3.0

Here are some notable schools that come up that seem to still be available

Evergreen State College (97% admit rate, CTCL)
Fisk University (US News Liberal Arts #118)
Lynchburg College (CTCL)
Ohio Wesleyan (US News Liberal Arts #97)
University of the Ozarks (I thought this used to be on US News Top Liberal Arts, it isn’t anymore)
