Hello everyone! Recently I received my SAT score of 1830, which I wasn’t too thrilled with, as I was looking at my SAT score to be the deciding factor of which schools I could get into due to my not so great grades

But anyways, I’m actively involved in JROTC, with lots of community service on my belt, I’m also a member of Heroes of Tomorrow, which helps out the homeless.

My question is, what are the chances of me getting into, say Texas A&M at College Station, Texas, or the University of Texas at Austin?

Here is my SAT score broken down
Math-650
Reading-620
Writing-560

And my GPA last I checked was around 2.9/4 (Yes I know, pretty bad)

Any help would be appreciated, on where I should apply, and what my chances are, thank you!

I don’t know a lot on what I can say about those universities (sorry). I definitely know that you would really want to increase your GPA, but my guess is that your SAT score is sufficient. I know that Texas A&M will need a much higher GPA. Although it could not hurt to increase your SAT score anyway, that is if you still have the chance. Overall, I would say that at max, you have medium chance (roughly 50%) of being accepted into those ones.

Sorry, I’m not very informed, but that is my two cents.

no explananation really, I really slacked off during first two years, as I had no idea on where I was going to go in life, and when junior year came around, I only decided in latter half, I was going to pursue a medical career, within the airforce.

Simply because of your GPA its going to be hard to get into either of these. Bringing that up would greatly improve your chances. Also, the fact that you had no idea of what you wanted to do, could also be considered a factor as to why you didn’t do so well those first two years if written correctly. If it really was just slacking off, but you know the material, etc, take the SAT Subject tests. I’d personally suggest one in Math (level 1 if you haven’t had pre-calculus, level II if you have had honors precalculus or calculus), and one in either Biology, Chemistry or Physics if you have had classes that would allow you to do well on these exams (i.e. AP Chem, etc.) Good scores on these, combined with a well written essay as to why your GPA isn’t as high as it should be should hopefully improve your chances as well. Also, have you considered anywhere outside of Texas? If not, State university’s should be well within your reach there.

Thank you, I really am trying now, the 2nd half of junior year, but calculus is such a tough cookie to crack.

I haven’t given much thought to out of state schools, mostly because I thought those schools would be much harder to get into than A&M or UT. I’ve looked at Syracuse University in NY, and my SAT scores compare well in it, but I don’t know enough about it.

Also would my 4 years of ROTC involvement help any in gaining acceptance to Texas A&M, or if I do EA for both colleges?
