SAT CR question

Could you please put an explanation for this question? The passage can be found on pg. 4 of this link (it’s in section 1, and the passage is about global warming) : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-SjC2QWxqXRWGw1M29mTi1rcXM/view

  1. In line 25, "range" most nearly means (A) sequence (B) territory (C) scope (D) capacity (E) distance

Why is it (C), not (D)? I reasoned that the temperature rise would be intolerable to humans, hence that the temperature would be beyond what humans can hold off - humans thus don’t have the physical “capacity” to endure such temperature.

Much help would be greatly appreciated

The passage states that temperatures could increase, but never states that humans would not be able to endure such an increase, hence your reasoning is not based on the content of the passage.

One thought I have for you on this type of question would be don’t read something into a passage that is not there.

Thanks for your help. I understand why (D) is wrong. But could you explain what “scope” exactly means in this sentence? Why is “scope” used here?

chargerparent (@chargerparent)? could you please answer my question?
