How challenging would you say the SAT is?

There is a different type of difficulty between the SAT Reasoning Test and SAT Subject Tests. The Reasoning tests the knowledge, reasoning, and critical thinking skills you’ve picked up over the years of your life. You can study vocabulary, math, and writing, and from scores to about 1500-2000, you can raise your score by learning more material (math, vocab, writing) but if you are aiming for scores at 2100+, it will really be a matter of getting those few extra answers right, which I’d say (don’t know if true) truly tests what the SAT is trying to measure. You wit will be tested.

As for the Subject tests, it’s just a matter of knowing the subject material. It’s not really an aptitude test, as such. It’s just testing how much you’ve learned in a certain course. In my case, for example, I didn’t even study for the chemistry exam and I scored an 800. (Albeit, I was taking AP chem at the time) The subject tests are not really that difficult, it’s just that a lot of students overload themselves with AP classes that they only cram for the in class tests and forget the stuff the weekend after therefore resulting in crappy SAT scores. In my opinion, the subject tests differentiate between those who learned and retained the information, and the crammers, though I’m not saying you shouldn’t review with a prep book a couple weeks before the test.
