SAT essay should pertain to the prompt?

Let’s say the little paragraph before the actual essay question talks about technology. Then, the actual question asks about how progression affects society.

(I just made the example up.) Does your essay response have to pertain to technology in this case, or can you talk about any kind of societal progression?

Thanks!

Any type of societal progression. Technology can be one of your examples, though. Another example that you could write about would be women’s rights in the 20th century, or possibly the Industrial Revolution.

Any time of societal progressions is what you must focus on to get a good score. And if you refer to technology in your introduction, you should use it as an example later on, or it looks like you just shoved it in your introduction to fill some lines.

Don’t feel like you have to use the prompt at all. It’s often confusing as heck, so feel free to ignore it. All you have to do is respond to the actual assignment. Good luck.
