Sat essay!!! :)

Hi so could someone please grade my essay. If you could tell me out of 12 how good it is that would be great:) I did it in 25 minutes and here is the prompt:

Everyone makes hundreds of simple, spontaneous decisions daily. When the issues are not morally complex and the stakes are small, our normal instincts are sufficient. The problem comes when we don’t distinguish between minor and potentially major issues that demand a much more careful approach. But even with significant consideration, it can be very difficult to choose between two options that seem equally valuable.

What two options are the most difficult to choose between? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue.

Mistakes are the one thing is this world that can either make you or break you. While many people believe that making mistakes adds to their growth as a person, it’s important to know that it stems from their decisions. Often in life, we are given options, some may be immediately ruled out and eventually it comes down to two options. Our moral instincts are good in letting us know exactly what we should and shouldn’t do but we don’t always listen to them. The two options that are the most difficult to choose between are the one the benefits you and the one that benefits others.

Firstly, the option that is given may be something that will be beneficial to us. We come across many of these examples in our day to day lives. Many times, in wars, the leaders are given two options: to protect your country or compromise. A compromise obviously leads to everyone's benefit but leaders struggle between the two options. In the civil war, unions and confederates battled against each other, without thinking about the country as a whole. This selfishness is what drives people to the first of the options.

The second option, being the more selfless one, always nags at us from inside. Although hidden, there is an inner self that says to do the right thing. This is perfectly portrayed in Newland Archer’s journey in Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence. Although in love with Countess Olenska, he sacrifices his love for the sake of his marriage. Archer is faced with two options, the most difficult, choosing for himself or for the happiness of his wife. Not only does this take great courage, but it also has an effect on you. Newland never truly loves his wife, but he does not desert her. The main highlight of his journey is this difficult decision that he had to make.

Some may disagree saying that there are more difficult options to chose from than this, but these two deal with internal peace. These two options question your morality, beliefs, and character. The option of making someone else happy rather than being happy yourself is the most difficult one. When issues are not morally complex, our normal instincts are sufficient but in this case, a great deal of consideration is necessary. It is indeed, through these decisions that we define ourselves.

The first example is kinda vague. The intro does not make sense. What does mistakes have to do with the option that benefit you and the one that benefit others? Nice organization. Repeat the “two options” in the conclusion because you just mention them as “these two options”. Put some more complex vocabulary and you are set. You have the potential to get a 12. Just work at it.

Thank you so much! That’s some really good advice:)
