Question: Is trying to please people a way to achieve success or failure?

“Action is the foundational key to all success.” said the great and successful artist, Pablo Picasso. In order to be successful, one must work hard and earn it, and to be successful among people, one must please them. Of course, hard work to achieve something that benefits everyone generally pleases people. While many presume that trying to please people is a route to failure, on the contrary, it is a way to achieve success, like president Barack Obama with Obamacare, and Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games with the revolution.

President Barack Obama is a very successful president who won the elections two times in a row. Obama achieved success by pleasing the people of America. For example, he signed a healthcare reform law called Obamacare back in 2010, that provided Americans with affordable health insurance, regulated the health industry, and improved the quality of health insurance and health care in the United States. Such acts from the president pleased everyone, and Obama grew more successful and earned everyone’s respect.

Katniss Everdeen from the book The Hunger Games is a strong, respected, and successful character. Katniss Everdeen started a revolution against her country’s very corrupt government, giving people their deserved freedom. At first, people were scared to go against the government, but once Katniss stood up for her beliefs and for her country and people, everyone started to join in. They put down the government eventually, and Katniss became the most successful and respected woman in her country. People admired and respected her and considered her successful because she tried to please herself and everyone else.

Without those people who try to please us, our world wouldn’t have reached where it is now in all aspects such as technology, education, and politics. These people achieve success by pleasing others, which is practically a win-win situation. After all, where is the harm in trying to please oneself by pleasing others?
